George Haywood

George Haywood (11 December 1906 – 25 January 1992) was an English professional footballer who played as a centre forward. He made 60 appearances and scored 23 goals in the Football League, playing for Birmingham, Chesterfield and Southport.
==Club career==
Haywood was born in Coleorton, Leicestershire. He played for Whitwick Imperial and for Gresley Rovers before joining First Division club Birmingham as a professional in November 1928. He scored twice on his Birmingham debut, in a 3–0 defeat of Manchester City in December 1929,〔Matthews, p. 172.〕 and proved an adequate deputy for England international Joe Bradford, but never established himself as a first-team regular. He went on to spend brief periods with Chesterfield and Southport in the Third Division North and for Cradley Heath in the Birmingham & District League before retiring in 1939.〔 He died in Coalville, Leicestershire, in 1992 at the age of 85.
